Description of Service

This role is a core member of the Enterprise Information Security (EIS) team at EDC and a facilitator, enabling and supporting key strategic initiatives to utilize a new way of working at EDC. This new way of working is based in the Agile mindset. The EIS Scrum Master supports team members in applying Agile practices, processes, and behaviours for executing effectively and with quality; raises the performance of cybersecurity team (and its partners) through impediment management, continuous improvement, and ceremony facilitation.

The successful candidate will act as a master coach and facilitator to all of cybersecurity team squads, supporting the team and EIS leaders by effectively advocating and enabling them to create the conditions to frequently deliver high-value / high-quality products, remove impediments, limit team distractions, and introduce new practices to drive improvement.

This role will interact/work on a regular basis with business leaders, cybersecurity and IT subject experts, external resources/partners supporting the Cybersecurity Program, product owners and Scrum of Scrums (stakeholder groups).

Specific Project Requirements  

  • Supports Cybersecurity business lead to develop long-term roadmaps which are congruent with the Agile approach by engaging in problem solving sessions with Sponsors and Initiative leads.
  • Focus on Cybersecurity Sprint Readiness – supports the Business Leads and the team members to maintain a healthy backlog for the current and upcoming sprints; guides teams to commit to work within the boundaries of the team’s historical velocity (balance capacity with demand).
    • Supporting the EIS workstream Leads to define outcomes, complete sprint planning, in driving uniform initiatives – and individual-level learning and performance management.
    • Ensure a focus on business value delivery by through coaching of leaders, initiative owners, project managers, and SMEs within EIS.
    • Creating / sustaining an engineering culture of continuous improvement, and provides feedback to teams on techniques to drive efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Responsible to create a robust Cybersecurity Program integration plan through engagement with team members and stakeholders on external dependencies –cybersecurity workstreams and EIS operational initiatives.
    • Dependency Management – works with Product Owners and Scrum Masters outside EIS team to identify and monitor dependencies.
  • Leads the EIS squads/scrum team to become a self-organized, cross-functional and highly efficient team that delivers high-quality product.
    • Organize the processes of decomposition and task estimation, finding dependencies with other teams.
    • Enable the team to find innovative ways of resolving dependencies and navigating complex business and technical trade-offs by facilitating cross-team meetings.
    • Look for ways to strengthen teams’ understanding and application of Agile / Scrum / Kanban concepts and principles and create a sense of continuous learning in the team transformation.
    • Protect the team from external disturbances and help remove impediments.
    • Create and maintain an atmosphere of trust through facilitation of retrospectives and feedback exchange among team members.
  • Facilitates team ceremonies, including sprint planning, demos, backlog refinement, team operations daily standups and uses Kanban / Scrum board to visualize the work to manage impediments, WIP, and flow of work through the system.
    • Impediment removal and issue escalation – facilitates the resolution of impediments raised by the team members; monitors sprint progress to identify potential issues or delays in the completion of work; coordinates cross platform dependencies; escalates issues to appropriate managers and/or leads.
    • Sprint and Release Metrics – communicates the status and progress of the sprint through ceremonies and key delivery metrics; shares metrics with various teams and stakeholders to enable forecasting / predictability of product delivery.
  • Innovation and continuous Improvement Support – Partners with Product Owners and other team members to drive improvement using a hypothesis, experimentation, measure, learn approach and ensures teams are actively seeking out opportunities for improvement through retrospectives.
  • Communication & Leadership: ensure a transparent communication on the new way of working and progress of Cybersecurity initiatives with groups outside of EIS team and bring transparency to Business and IT around team, risks and solution delivery.

 

 

Skills Required:

Top 4 skills:

  • Analytical thinking and problem solving – strong in processes modeling, requirements gathering techniques and benefits analysis.
  • Expert level knowledge of Agile practices, acting as an advisor and coach of teams and leaders.
  • Proven experience planning, monitoring and reporting status on projects (using hybrid approaches: traditional and iterative).
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) in English. Note: French will be an asset.

 

Assets

  • Facilitation of use of Business and Opportunity Canvases
  • Knowledge of Design Thinking techniques
  • Scrum Alliance or SAFe certification
  • Proficient in both French & English

Screening:

  • Minimum 3 years as a dedicated Scrum Master or Agile Coach on a software development team, information security or Scrum team experience with DevSecOps practices.
  • Note: If there are no candidates that meet the screening criteria above, we can consider:
  • 2+ as a coach/transformation advisor at an enterprise level, including coaching senior leaders
  • 5+ years practicing Agile, including Scrum and/or Kanban – preferred working in information security or DevSecOps teams.

  • Supports leaders and team members to document business outcomes, define team operational objectives and measures of success – enabling data-driven decisions: draw heavily on his/her experience collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data from a variety of sources to create compelling written and verbal communications.
  • Leading/facilitation of team ceremonies, backlog refinement, sprint planning, tracking and reporting – in a team new to Agile and scrum practices. Organize the processes of decomposition and task estimation, finding dependencies with other teams.
  • Impediment removal and risk identification – facilitates the resolution of impediments raised by the team members; monitors sprint progress to identify potential risks/issues or delays in the completion of work; coordinates cross platform dependencies; escalates issues to appropriate managers and/or leads.
  • Communication: ensure a transparent communication on the new way of working and progress of Cybersecurity initiatives with groups outside of EIS team and bring transparency to Business and IT around team, risks and solution delivery approaches. Including team development, sprint and release metrics.
  • Development of training materials and delivery of training and workshops (as required)
